A Medieval bronze seal of two women eating fruit.
English, 14th century.
Measures 3.9 x 2.4 x 0.9cm.
At first the seal appears to depict Adam and Eve, although it is worth noting the absence of a snake and the feminine form of the two figures. The inscription to the outer edge is hard to read but possibly ‘FRACT’. ARBORISSE DVXITROS FIL’. OIKE D’MITNOS’. The AR and OR of ARBORISSE are ligatured and the legend is hard to decipher, however it could be interpreted as the ‘Seal of ARBORISSE DVXITROS, son of OIKE D’MITNOS(?)’, although it is still open to interpretation.
