Cizhou glazed stoneware jar. China Yuan dynasty 13th century.

Stoneware jar mounted on the wheel covered with a cream glaze decorated in brown iron oxide with stylized birds, Chinese characters and geometric friezes. The drawings are drawn with brushes energetically without hesitation. These large cizhou jars were made in quantity and there are many examples in the collections, however the one presented here is exceptionally large which represents a significant technical difficulty. Chinese work from the Yuan period, 13th century. Good condition, no restoration (which is exceptional). A chip on the neck that can be seen on enlarged photo. 675x450mm.
