Pair of sculptures in natural and patinated lime wood in imitation of the works of Simon Troger (1693-1768) author of works in ivory and natural wood; These works illustrate beggars, in worn costumes and lively attitudes, often illustrated by Le Maitre, himself inspired by Jacques Callot (1592-1635) whose engravings "the miseries of war" had a very particular echo in Germanic baroque art. These works in particular, from a workshop, use an original technique of double patina of lime wood to imitate the works partly in ivory by Simon Troger.
The followers of Simon Troger are in Bavaria and Tirol , and usually are not from a great quality.
This one arefrom a great quality.
The slender movement on one foot of one of the characters, which one might think of a whirling dancer, contrasts well with that gathered on his cane of a lame man with an enormous goiter and torn clothes. Could this be a parable of grandeur and decadence, or an allegory of life?
