GRAY MUSKETEER HELMET (1st company) OF THE KING'S MILITARY HOUSE, model 1814, Restoration. 27913
Bombe (depth 16 cm), visor (7 cm) and neck cover in silver-plated copper. Visor and neck cover edged with a brass bangle folded astride the outer edge (8 mm).
Oval-shaped front plate in gilded brass, width 11.1 cm, H 12.3 cm (11.9 cm without the curvature), stamped with the cross of the first company of the Musketeers with fleurs-de-lis framing the cross and flames in Angles ; the center of the cross is cut out and garnished with a chiseled silver plaque.
Two large branches of oak and laurel in gilded brass are attached to the bomb on either side of the front plate.
Plumet holder with a tubular shape decreasing towards the bottom with a round section, H 4.5 cm, engraved with a molding decorated with palmettes.
Crest in gilded brass stamped with flames and lightning emerging from a cornucopia with, on the front part, a bursting bomb from which flames and lightning emerge on the body of which the motto of the first company “QUO RUIT ET LETHUM” (Wherever he rushes, death rushes there too). The crest is attached to the bomb with eight screws on its lower part which is folded on the outside and depicting a series of tulips. Maximum height 11.5 cm, width at the level of the mask at its center 4.5 cm.
Crest ornament in black horsehair with gilded brass socket, H 9 cm, diameter 6.2 cm.
Mane in the shape of a floating tail of black horsehair, garnished in its center with a braid of gilded silver thread. Mane 55 cm long.
Chinstraps, each composed of a gilded brass rosette in the shape of a bursting bomb from which flames and lightning emerge, H 10.6 cm, width 6.7 cm; and a chin guard covered with a series of 18 gilded brass scales cut in the shape of a festoon alternately in four and three festoons (the penultimate scale is cut into two festoons and the last is rounded); they are mounted on leather covered with black velvet, apparent length 17 cm, maximum width 5.4 cm, ending with a small gold flower (the fringes are missing from one of the two flowers).
Interior headdress in leather and black silk.
Total height 43 cm.
Egret in white heron feathers with base in black ostrich feathers.
Brass tulip pompom.
Very good condition, a chin strap restored by replacing the black velvet and a few staples to hold the scales.
