A.B. Stringi (?)
Early 19th cent.; Probably Sicily, Italy
Oil on canvas in giltwood frame
Approximate size: 19 inches (diameter)
The present painting features a bouquet of mixed aster maladies in subdued whites, pinks and yellows framed within a tonal palette of greens and a later varnish that has matured into a beautiful blonde-hued patina.
This vintage piece would add a pleasing presence to any room fashioned within these color ranges as well as visual interest with its circular format and nice subtly weathered and giltwood frame.
A vague signature is in the upper register of the composition, perhaps reading A. Stringi B., the latter initial probably being the artist’s surname. If correct, the painting may have a Sicilian origin where the Stringi lineage is believed to descend.
Condition commensurate with age. Some minor losses to the paint on the surface of the canvas due to tightening and loosing of the canvas from humidity and age. Minor dings and scratches to the frame.
