A pewter mounted stoneware tankard dated 1666.
Creussen, Bavaria, possibly 19th century.
Measures 20 x 20 x 15cm.
The tankard is decorated in polychromed enamels, the main body depicting Roman gods and goddesses amidst flowers. The front of the tankard bears the portrait of a nobleman and his coat of arms with the dates ‘1666’. Although bearing a 17th century date, the lack of surface wear to the base leads me to believe that this is a 19th century example.
