The town hall in veere - François jean Louis Boulanger (1819-1873)

Oil on canvas

Signed lower right and on the back

Boulanger was mainly know for his picturesque sites from Ghent, less often a picturesque corner from Bruges or Dutch cities. Sporadically, he also painted some navies. His style is consistent with "romantic realism" and he combines a topographical meticulousness with elements from romanticism, such as e.g. a fine, even painting style, the soft, flattering romantic colorite and the attention to the couleur locale through small picturesque scenes and characters.
