We can see a half-length portrait of an older woman, wearing a brown waistcoat with a black collar over a white blouse against a dark background.
Marten van Cleve was a Flemish painter mainly known for his genre scenes with peasants and landscapes, which show a certain resemblance with the work of Pieter Brueghel the Elder. Marten was one of the leading Flemish artists of his generation.
