Oil on canvas, H 55.5 cm, width 46.5 cm, in an old gilded wooden frame, H 73 cm, width 64 cm. It represents a captain of cuirassiers of the Royal Guard in full dress seated in a garden, in a model 1816 uniform, monogrammed and dated lower left "HV 1827".

BIOGRAPHY :
Horace VERNET, born June 30, 1789 in Paris where he died January 17, 1863, is a French painter, member of the Institut de France. Son of Carle Vernet, grandson of Claude Joseph Vernet (1714-1789), marine painter and of Jean-Michel Moreau the younger (1741-1814). His uncle is the architect Jean-François Chalgrin (1739-1811)1.
Horace Vernet follows in his father's footsteps in military painting, which he specializes in and where he proves to be a brilliant painter.
