A finely engraved cow horn.

American, first half of the 19th century.

Measures 40cm long.

The body is engraved with the great seal of the Unites States of America which takes the form of an eagle, a scroll held within its beak bears the motto ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ (which translates as ’Out of many, one’). The eagle is engraved above a continuous scene of galloping men on horseback with dogs in pursuit of a deer. The base of the horn is mounted with a brass collar bearing the owners initials ‘J.B.C’. Beneath the brass collar is a historic fracture
