Alfred Jean Foretay (1861-1944).
Imposing patinated bronze bust representing Diane de Poitiers after the model of Jean Goujon. French school from the end of the 19th century.
It has significant dimensions that reach 62 cm in height.
Of Swiss origin, Foretay arrived in Paris at the age of 16, where he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts as a student of Falguière. His talent is expressed both in painting and sculpture, where he works both marble and bronze. He made his debut at the Salon in 1891 where he received an honorable mention and a gold medal in 1904. Besides many decorative sculptural works, Foretay created many figures and busts in the Art Nouveau style.

"Ninfa", 77 cm marble sculpture, Sothebys sale on December 11, 2022;
""Semiramis", polychrome terracotta sculpture, published in the book "Terres Cuites Orientalistes et Africanistes 1860-1940" by Stéphane Richemond.
Very good state of conservation. Signed on the back "Foretay".
The bust is presented on a carved wooden column which can be supplied separately on request.
