18th Century, Italian Walnut Wood Chest of Drawers with Secretaire
The elegant small Chest of Drawers with Secretaire was built in the Venetian area in the first half of the eighteenth century. The cabinet is paved in walnut wood with walnut veneer inserts. The cabinet is composed of two parts, one lower and one higher. The lower part has three large drawers with chiselled and gilded bronze handles and locks. The upper part is instead composed of an opening compartment equipped with a small tilting door that, rotating on pins, can be lowered and raised according to the needs (secretaire). When it is open it provides a shelf for writing and reveals two small drawers, a compartment closed by a door and two open compartments, in which to store stationery and small personal items.
The front of the cabinet is slightly wavy, creating a pleasant play of reflections. The Chest of Drawers rests on shaped square feet.
The Chests of Drawers with Secretaire are very practical and elegant desk models, which have always had a wide spread and are still very sought after today. This cabinet has small dimensions and a very elegant line. Can be inserted in a contemporary home, ideal to create a private corner, perfect
inside a professional studio as an office dresser or in any other place, from the entrance to the living room, from the attic to the bedroom, giving the whole great elegance and sophistication.
