Decorative art from 18th to 20th century
Box.
Silver and agate.
Southern Germany, probably Augsburg, 17th century.
This precious box resting on ball feet presents a silver frame enclosing in wolf's teeth agate plates beveled in a diamond shape.
The great precision in the work of the silver is typical of the production of southern Germany, and particularly Augsburg. Indeed, the engraved ornaments, the meticulous festooning as well as the regularity of the German silversmith’s works were particularly renowned during the 16th, 18th and 18th centuries.
