Recently appeared on the market as attributed to Maratti, for understandable reasons, this beautiful drawing nevertheless presents many characteristics of Charles de La Fosse's drawings: bold sanguine line, and white chalk highlights, unrefined bis paper, robust hands, recognizable physical type and a damaged angle as in some drawings from the same bundle. Clémentine Gustin-Gomez, whom we thank for her generous help in writing this note, dates the work to the 1680s, bringing it closer to the work done by the artist for the Château de Choisy. However, it has not yet been possible to attach this study to an identified composition.
