TUNIC OF ANTOINE GENDRE, MARECHAL DES LOGIS-CHEF TROMPETTE OF THE 2nd REGIMENT OF CUIRASSIERS OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, Second Empire.

Tunic in madder-colored cloth. Collar, piping, facing tabs and skirt lining in dark sky blue cloth. Collar trimmed with a wool braid with woven tricolor diamonds. Nine buttonholes are in braid cul-de-de in white thread (apparent width of the buttonhole braid redoubled: 4 cm), the top buttonhole has a width of 17 cm, the others are decreasing in width to arrive at the last one at the bottom with a width of 8 cm. Epaulet loops in madder cloth. Rectangular facings, piped madder and trimmed with three buttons of uniform small module. The top of the left sleeve has two chevrons of old white wool woven cul-de-de. The bottom of each sleeve has the two rank braids sewn on the bias identical to the chevrons of seniority. Pewter buttons stamped with the imperial eagle and the motto "GARDE IMPÉRIALE". On the back, false vertical pockets piped dark sky blue, each lined with three buttons uniform large module and belt maintenance tab in garance piped dark sky blue fixed by a button uniform small module.

Tunic lined with quilted unbleached canvas on the front, and dark sky blue cloth at the bottom. It is marked in ink "H.S.", stamp of the regiment of cuirassiers with the imperial crown followed by the inscription "2 C", matriculated "326", dated 4th quarter 1856, it is bordered in the bottom of a leather belt natural color.

Good condition, repairs to the sheet and lining, missing the braid of the facings.

BIOGRAPHY :
Antoine GENDRE, born on August 19, 183, in Grenade in the department of Haute-Garonne, farmer. He measures 1m76. Incorporated into the 1st cuirassier regiment as of March 31, 1855, as a conscript registered under the number 224 of the list of the contingent of the department of Haute-Garonne, class 1834, arrived at the corps on May 4, 1855.
Transferred on July 4, 1856 to the Cuirassiers de la Garde (coming from the 1st cuirassier regiment), arrived at the corps on July 11, 1856, appointed trumpet on September 1, 1856.
On November 2, 1860 he re-enlisted for a period of seven years.
The n° 326 became 50 in 1865 (reset of the matricule).
On November 15, 1865 the 2nd regiment was suppressed, the two regiments merged, Antoine Gendre changed his regimental number and was assigned the number "74".
On January 1, 1866 he is mentioned as "incorporated into the trumpet corps coming from the former 2nd Cuirassiers Regiment of the Imperial Guard". He was still a trumpeter on December 31, 1868 when he left the service.
