White marble sculpture
Height with base 50.5 cm
Of great beauty and strong aesthetic-emotional impact, this refined portrait of a young and beautiful lady was created by Jean Francois Van Den Kerckove, with great wealth and attention to detail.
Her splendid face and sumptuous hairstyle are sculpted with great skill and meticulous precision, to the point that her hair is even distinguishable one by one or in small strands.
These, elegantly divided, and tied with ribbons form a princely hairstyle.
Jean Francois Van Den Kerckhove comes from a family of sculptors, was a pupil of Guillaume Geefs and worked around 1846-1850 with Charles Geerts in Louvain
Works by him are present in the Brussels Museum.
He also executed works for public spaces (see for example "Le Arquebusiers" and "Le Brasseurs" exhibited in Brussels in the "Petit Sablon" square).
