Ceres, allegory of summer

White marble sculpture from the 17th century.

Bust of a beautiful young woman with her long hair gathered at the nape of her neck and draped over her shoulder.

The hairstyle is then adorned with flowers and ears of corn.

Thus Ceres was represented, an allegory of summer.

Ceres, mother goddess of earth and fertility, but also goddess of birth (since all flowers, fruit, and living things were thought to be gifts from her)

she is considered a symbol of summer, the quintessential season of harvests.
