Love taming strength (begnigne Gagneraux 1756-1795 attributed) Oil on oak panel representing, Cupid a lion lying at his feet, Collection stamp emblazoned on the back. The frame bears an old attribution to Constance Mayer. Begnigne Gagneraux born September 24, 1756 in Dijon, died in Florence August 18, 1795 (probably defenestrated). Prix de Rome in 1776, neoclassical painter, he was appointed history painter to the court of Sweden in 1794. Love taming strength is to be compared by composition to the Genie des Arts painted in 1789. He is present at the Metropolitan Museum of art and in many museums Dimensions: With frame, height 45 cm, width 37 cm. Without frame, height 36 cm, width 28 cm
