‘Giant’ carriage clock, Drocourt, circa 1870

The dial
The 8.5-cm enamel dial has Roman numerals and is fitted in a finely foliate engraved gilt mask. The spade hands are made of blued steel.

The movement
The movement is driven by two spring barrels and has a duration of at least eight days. It is being regulated by a ratchet tooth platform lever escapement with fine bi-metallic balance. The clock strikes the hours and half hours by means of rack striking. It repeats the last hour struck when the repeat button is pushed. The back plate has the Drocourt trade mark and is numbered 7030

The case
The gilt brass gorge case is in original condition with a nice old patina. It has beveled glass panels on all sides including the top revealing the moving escapement. It is surmounted by a carrying handle and placed on a nicely moulded plinth.
