Bronze with black patina, representing a flayed Hercules leaning on a tree trunk, on which the skin of the Lion of Nemea is hanging.
This bronze is a variation of the terracotta by Willem van den Broeck (1530-1580) in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
Such a flaying is unprecedented in Flemish
Flemish sculpture of the 16th century.
