A late 19th century Desk in Louis XVI Style

A satin wood and rosewood marquetry desk in Louis XVI style opening with a one drawer. On four fluted tapered legs. Gilt bronze ornamentation in shape of acanthus leaves, stylized fruits and flowers. The quality of the desk and its bronzes is representative of the best Napoleon III period furniture manufactures in Paris. The interior of the drawer is made in rosewood, a precius wood.

Through its quality, this piece of furniture could be attributed to François Linke (1855 - 1946). The gold medal of the Jury of the Paris Universal Exhibition won in 1900 for his large desk with its armchair executed together with Léon Messagé, reinforced permanently the reputation of Linke who continued to participate in the important world exhibitions.
