The Saint Cyr stitch is the Royal tapestry stitch par excellence. The tapestry with the small point taught by Madam de Maintenon in her house of education of saint Louis in saint Cyr, becomes a fact of society and invades the boudoirs and the living rooms. It is found on a tapestry by Madame de Mailly that Louis XV lacerated with a knife, and later on the upholstery of armchairs made by Marie Antoinette for Compiègne. Executed at court or in the provincial bourgeoisie, the tapestry in Saint Cyr stitch has entered into history. The great ones of this world will continue the tradition by embroidering tapestries with the Petit Point for their furniture, the duchess of Berry for her castle of Rosny and the general Cambronne to occupy his old days...
