Male draped portrait on the right.
Roman Empire, late 3rd -early 4th century CE.
Agate.
H. : 2,2 cm
Roman male portraits for the period are exceedingly rare, far more than female effigies. Martin Henig lists only one exemplar in The complete Content cameo (number 68), where the male bust is associated with that of a woman. Its style is comparable with our exemplar in the synthetic general treatment specific to the period, and more particularly in the short cross-hatched cropped hair.
