Beautiful double-sided Régence flat desk in ebony and blackened wood veneer. The front and sides are decorated with a rich trim of finely chiseled and gilded bronzes: its curved legs are adorned with busts of Spaniards and end with sabots. On the drawers, the entrances of locks are finely chiseled as well as the falling handles with rosettes. The ornamentation of the brass fillets forming geometrical patterns is perfectly positioned: on the top, on the legs and drawers, on the false drawers, as well as on the small sides, it welcomes the bronzes with precision and respects the perfect proportions of the desk. The frame is in walnut and fir. Original black leather top, gilded with a small gilded iron and also encircled by a beautiful brass molding.
Our desk is a very nice example of the furniture of the end of the reign of Louis XIV, Parisian work around 1700.
It was originally intended to be placed in the center of a room. It is said to be in the middle of a room because it opens with three drawers in the belt, and presents on the opposite side three false drawers perfectly simulated.
Our desk is also a rare small model easier to place than the usual large models of 160 or 180cm. However, its proportions remain perfect without tasteful mistakes.
Our desk is in very good condition, it remained in a "natural" state, we had the varnish cleaned and repolished with an antique stamp. The old and original leather has been preserved. The bronzes are varnished. Some small traces of plating, normal for a 300 years old piece of furniture.
